Me and Walt had our final visit with the midwives for our 6 week check up. It was kind of sad for me that our visits to the midwives are over; they were so awesome that it's hard to see it end. Well, I was guessing that Walt would be 11 lbs. and some number of ounces, but he ended up weighing in at 12 lbs. 8 oz. That's nearly a 5 lbs. weight gain in 6 weeks!! Darren and I had been commenting to each other that he seemed to be getting pretty chubby, but neither of us guessed he'd weigh so much already! As for me, I finally weighed myself (since I don't own a scale--which I think is a good thing) and I'm just 7 lbs. away from my pre-pregnancy weight. Not bad for no exercise for these last 6 weeks (well, now that Walt is over 10lbs. perhaps I should count carrying him around as exercise!).
Things to be thankful for this past week:
Exercise! This week was the week I could resume exercise, and it felt great...on the one day I managed to fit it in. Yeah, not so great of a start to resuming my exercise routine. I'm thinking this coming week I'll try doing three 10 minute workouts a day and see if that's easier than finding a half hour all at once.
Fresh strawberry syrup...mmmm! I had some strawberries that were starting to get mushy so I thought I'd make some syrup for pancakes and French toast. It was like heaven for breakfast! So yummy...I highly recommend trying it with your next pint of mushy strawberries :o)
I raved about my Bountiful Basket in my last post and I'm going to praise it some more! Meal planning was a cinch for me once I got my basket. It was a nice change to have someone else choose my produce for me because I let the produce shape the week's menu. I got to try new recipes and loved them. I have been wanting to roast Brussels sprouts for months and months, but I've been too cheap to buy them at the store. Since I got a bag full of them in my basket, I finally got to try them and they were very good roasted with bacon and potatoes (and the recipe was a cinch!). I also made my own spaghetti sauce for the first time. I'm not a big fan of raw tomatoes, so I knew I needed to cook my tomatoes if they weren't going to go to waste. The recipe I used was a winner and it made just the right amount of sauce for one dinner and one lunch. I will mention that I don't plan on making a habit of making my own tomato sauce, because it's usually not as economical as buying a jar of Prego at the store (unless you're a tomato Gardner!).
Walt started smiling and cooing this week! It’s so sweet to see his little smiles when he’s awake (not just the newborn smiles in his sleep). It’s amazing how fast little babies grow.

All of Walt's funny expressions.
Oh yeah, and a picture of me! I realize that I haven't posted a pic of me since I was pregnant, so just so you all know I still look the same :o)
