Lila's birth story

Lila is 3 months old! I thought I would take the opportunity to tell her birth story now, before the details get fuzzy. I don't think I've forgotten anything yet, so here we go! (By the way, this is pretty lengthy!) I was blessed with a near perfect pregnancy. I only had one morning my entire pregnancy of true morning sickness. During the last part of my first trimester and the beginning of my second trimester I felt slightly nauseated in the mornings, but it never lasted long. I don't know why some women get so sick and others don't. I would like to think that my exercise habits had something to do with it. During the winter semester of last year, when I became pregnant, I was taking a dance aerobics class, advanced tennis, and yoga. During the spring and summer months, while we were working in Connecticut, I went on power walks several times a week as well as working out to workout DVD's or yoga on BYU TV ( http://www.byub.org/totalbodyworkout/ ). When we returned...

Guess where we're going to spend our summer?!

We found out yesterday that we'll be spending our summer in Little Rock, Arkansas! For those of you who don't know, Darren works for Apx Alarms during the spring/summer break from BYU. He's one of those guys who knocks on your door and tries to sell you a home security sytem. This will be our third summer adventuring off to a new place for the summer sales job. Our first summer we spent in Louisville, Kentucky and last summer we were in Hartford, Connecticut. I absolutely loved both of the previous destinations. This summer will be Darren's first summer as a co-manager. His first pick (along with the other manager) for this summer was to return to Louisville. Unfortunetly they weren't high enough on the draft to get Louisville as their pick this summer, but they are still very excited to be going to Little Rock (the burglary rates are higher than average there!). My personal vote was for Nashville when they couldn't get Louisville, but that's just because I ...

I'm craftier than you think! - Part 2

Yesterday when I posted about the things I have made recently I forgot to mention the hat I crocheted for myself! On Sunday night (after the worst week was finally over and Grandma was playing with Lila) I finally had the chance to crochet this hat that I've been wanting. I almost broke down and ordered one on etsy.com, but I decided I had far too much yarn and that $15 was too much to pay for something I could make myself. So these are a couple of pics of my hat. Since having Lila I have many days when I don't have time to do my hair. Also, my hair is at an awkward almost-shoulder length and doesn't make a nice ponytail , so I have been wanting a slouchy hat to stuff all my hair into. I think the hat turned out pretty cute and if you're interested in crocheting one for yourself here's the pattern link:  http://jessicasuzanne.com/craftypants/2007/09/13/pretty-puffs-slouchy-hat-with-pattern/ .  By the way, in the spirit of giving credit where credit is due I am also ...

I'm craftier than you think!

I noticed baby girls in my ward wearing headbands that looked like they were made from panty hose material. I thought that seemed like a brilliant material for a baby headband. And being the person I am I thought, "I could probably make that myself!" I have been making headbands from nylon pantyhose and knee highs and stretch lace as well as fabric flowers and bows to clip onto the headbands. All of the pictures of Lila where she's wearing a headband are ones that I have made for her. I also have crocheted her a couple of hats that I like to clip the flowers onto also. The pic on the title of our blog Darren helped me make, and the red and pink headband on the left side of the blog I also made. The pics above are more of my handiwork :o)

The worst week had some good moments too!

This is from about two weeks ago--she's managing to stay awake for tummy time now! Well, last week consisted of two midterms, a sick husband, a baby who refused to sleep in her bed, a talk in sacrament, and a stressed out mommy who didn't get to go to her yoga classes.  Darren started feeling sick just over a week ago, but last Monday he thought he was feeling a little better. On Tuesday he was feeling so bad that by 3:00pm I ended up taking him to urgent care. We thought it was the flu, and so did the doctor when he looked at him, but the swab test indicated that it was a strain of adenovirus. We were told that he was contagious, so all week Darren didn't touch Lila to make sure she didn't get sick. Of course I thought it was a good idea for him not to be holding Lila, but it sure made things even harder for me! Thankfully Darren's parents are around usually after 8 or 9 pm, so I had some help in the evenings. It sure was hard during the day all week to take care ...
