He's here!!!

Our sweet baby boy arrived at 4:08 am this morning! The short version (long version to come soon!): my water broke at 12:30 am, I wasn't really feeling anything more than Braxton-Hicks contractions then, but we found someone to come sleep over with Lila, left for the birth center about 2 am, and he arrived just after 4. He's so very sweet and a very calm. We're loving every minute with him! We're super tired since we didn't really sleep last night, but we're all doing great. We'll post more about everything and more pics soon!! P.S. In true Darren & Adria style, we haven't named him yet! He was 7 lbs. 14 oz. and 21" long  and he has a little bit of brown hair :o)

Counting my blessings & 40 weeks update

Counting my blessings this week: I’m thankful for energy this week! I’m definitely zapped of energy by the end of the day, but I’ve had plenty enough energy to continue cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, and organizing. I’m so thankful for my good health! Darren and Lila had colds this past week, but not me. And I continue to be virtually ache-free. I’m still swollen this week and know I will be until D-day, but other than not particularly liking the way I look swollen, it’s not really causing me any trouble. Lila made some progress on more independence when using the bathroom. She even learned to hang the hand towel back up on the rack...which makes a slightly neat-freak mother happy :o) I continued stocking up the freezer this week: I made six loaves of bread, whole wheat waffles, banana chocolate chip muffins, cilantro-lime rice, and tortilla soup. Now I just have to stay away from my stash until baby comes... One of lifes simple pleasures for me is eating fresh made brea...

Potty training update

As I recently looked at some posts from this past fall, I thought an update on how potty training went would be helpful for me for the next time around (and maybe helpful for anyone else as well). At first I thought potty training wasn't easy because it took more than a week to get it to click. Looking back now, I'd say that at 2 months after beginning potty training, we had complete success. When we went on Christmas vacation, which included 4 days of driving, that was the true test of the training.  Lila was accident-free for the ENTIRE vacation including during those 45+ hours of being in the car, and that equals a pretty speedy success in my book.  Here's a run down of how things have gone and what we used to make it work: We have had only 1-2 accidents since Christmas and they were when she wouldn't stop playing to go use the toilet.  We haven't had a bedwetting since the first week we started potty training. Her proving early on that she could stay dry t...

Weekend update: pictures AND video!

Well this week felt kind of unproductive for me, but it's probably just because I finally let myself slow down and even do some relaxing.  Here's the list of all the good things from this past week: I put away my financial management homework and let myself do more nesting. The living room got rearranged a bit, closets got reorganized, and floors got swept and vacuumed.  An Ikea trip for me and Lila. Lila got to play in Smalland now, and I wanted to put curtains up in my bedroom before baby boy's arrival, so it was a successful trip for both of us.  I've enjoyed sleeping in a little later since Darren put up the new curtains (mentioned above) this week. Taking Lila for a well child visit so I could meet our chosen pediatrician before baby boy arrives. Lila's stats are: 38" tall (75th percentile), and 28 lbs. (25th percentile). She's long and lean and healthy. Lila didn't need any vaccinations, so she was a very good sport about the appointment, an...

Week 6

Well, it's been a tough week for me emotionally. I'm definitely getting close to the end of this pregnancy, and I just can't help wishing I was more ready for baby boy's arrival. I'm trying to just come to terms with where I'm at, lower my expectations for myself, and be happy with life at each moment. I didn't make this list throughout the week like I usually do, and now that I think of it, maybe my week would have been easier to deal with had I been counting my blessings each day. I will do better in the new week! For now, here are the good things I can recall from the past week: Catching Lila reading the Articles of Faith instead of sleeping. We have AoF 1-6 printed and pinned to the wall around her bed so we can practice reciting them before bed. Now we know that she likes to practice them instead of going to sleep (but we can't be too upset about that!). Lila telling me in the car on the way to church, "Eat it faster, Mommy! Roll down my win...

The last month of pregnancy

36+ weeks and feeling great! Lila being a "T" for Turetzky This pic is kinda blown out, but aren't her eyes so lovely? Not every picture captures how pretty they are. Hair-do of the week. A braid in front to keep the wispies out of her eyes, and a princess bun :o) Week 5 - Counting my blessings 5th week lesson at church that motivated me to share the gospel more more rain this week! interspersed with days of sunny 70’s :o) Winter in Austin is pretty nice, for the allergy-free like myself A successful day where I actually got my workout and shower in first-thing in the a.m., sent Lila to a friends house while I studied and took a quiz, took Lila for a walk, got Lila to take a full 2 hour nap while I worked on more homework and my Hypnobabies, and I made a great quick & easy dinner, played games with L & D before sending L to bed, got the dishes done, and had more time to study. Talk about a productive day (finally--I’ve been struggling lat...
