Just another week

So I uploaded the pics for this post, then I left you all hanging (as if there's someone reading this blog!). Anyway, you can imagine that I've been too busy with life to be timely with my blog updates. So a few days late, here's the list and some descriptions of the pics from the past week. This week I was thankful for... ...Soccer tots. Some of our friends from church with little boys have been taking a soccer class at a local indoor soccer place. Our friends had invited us to come try out the class, since you can do that for free. We finally gave it a try and Lila loved it! I wasn't sure how she would do, but she had no problem being the only girl in the class and she shocked me with her skills! She quickly was running and kicking the ball and going straight for the goal. She's quite competitive, so she tried her best to keep up with the boys when the coach was having them run the length of the field. We'll see if we can sign up for the remainder of ...

In a rut...but there's still plenty to be thankful for

This past week felt like it had more downs than ups.  Some days I feel like I'm failing at being the mother of two children. Lila wouldn't take a nap at least 3 days this past week and it was obvious to me that she wasn't getting enough sleep. No naps equals no good. The days she took her nap felt 10 times better than the days she skipped her nap. I just feel helpless when I'm trying to get her to take her nap, but then Walt needs me and I have to abandon my attempt. I'm hoping that I can keep a grip on nap time and have her continue napping every day.  Lila has also been difficult to get on the toilet. I remind her constantly throughout the day to go have a "potty break," but she always resists. Then the next thing I know she's dancing around about to have an accident and begging me to come to the bathroom with her. And this is conveniently happening while I'm feeding the baby or rocking him to sleep, of course. Then when she's fina...

Happy Mother's Day!

This week the calendar has reminded me to be thankful for mothers. I'm thankful for a mother who taught me so many things and sacrificed so much of her time to raise me and my six siblings. I wasn't always an easy kid to raise, and I know my mom did her best to deal with me and my attitude! My mom & Lila, summer 2010 My mother-in-law & Walt, March 2012 I'm also thankful for my mother-in-law. She raised the wonderful man I'm married to and must have done a darn good job for him to have turned out so well!  As I have become a mother my appreciation for my own mother has increased. I now know about all the hard work that goes into caring for a family physically and spiritually. It's a 24 hour job that often goes thank-less. But even when the children are too young to verbally thank you or understand all that you do to take care of them, a snuggle, a smile, or laugh together make it all worth it. I'm thankful for the privilege to be a ...

Somebody had a birthday...

and it was me! I turned 29. Yup, my days as a twenty-something are numbered. Life is good though, so no worries about what the calendar says. Here's the good stuff from the past week: Lila said to me on Monday, "Mommy, your tummy shrunk small!" Haha, at least she's not asking why my tummy is squishy anymore (which it still is). Walt napping well and being happy when he's awake. Lila trying more new foods and eating more of a variety. Darren's excitement and progress on a new children's app he's working on in his spare time. Lemon zucchini bread ...thank you Pinterest! The weekend's Bountiful Basket had vanilla beans in the tropical pack! Naps! Once again me and littles had our own naps at the same time...pure bliss! I love cuddling with my babes, but sleeping alone is pretty nice too. Shopping with Lila (Walt was there too, but sleeping in the carseat on the stroller :) Lila was very excited to try on the hats. Being available to pi...

Two months

Walt turned two months old last Saturday! I have to say that I've fully welcomed him getting just a little bit older. He's really made a good turn around in the past week as he's reached the two month mark. He's been napping better and letting me rock him to sleep in the glider vs. the sling, and he gives me a 5 hour stretch of sleep most nights. A couple of weeks ago it took a lot of physical effort on my part to get him to sleep, so the change has been nice. He's also been cooing and smiling a lot and he bats as hanging toys.  He's getting to be so fun to interact with! He still gets swaddled, falls asleep to white noise, and sleeps in the swing, but it's all become so much easier. We're just growing up together :o) I can hardly remember life before two kids now, when just a couple of weeks ago I wondered how any one woman feels capable enough to ever have more than one child!  He had his two month check up on Monday and was quite the charmer. He w...
