Ups and downs

We had a roller coaster of emotions with Lila this week. I'll spare you the "downs" and be thankful for the "ups" I had with my girl.

Monday
Noosa yoghurt. If you haven't tried this stuff, save your pocketbook and your tastebuds and stay far away! I don't often buy yogurt since everyone else in the house is on a dairy-free diet, but this was on sale one day the packaging just caught my eye, so I tried it. Um, I've never had more delicious yogurt in my life. Seriously. So. Good.
Going to the grocery store is not my favorite chore, but I am so grateful there are grocery stores to go to! Sometimes I think how hard it would be to do without all the little luxuries I take for granted each day, and I remember how thankful I am for those things that aren't my favorite but sure make my life easy.
A spur of the moment mommy-daughter date with Lila. We we're having a rough day and even though I just wanted to be by myself once Darren got home, I knew I needed to make sure Lila knew how much I love her and want to give her my full attention. We danced in our seats in the car and went to the library to pick out movies. We watched Dora together when we got home. I will never regret taking that hour to spend one-on-one with my sweet girl.

Tuesday
My visiting teachers came for a visit. This always makes me happy. Lila enjoyed having a playmate for the hour my VT were here.
We went for an outing to stretch our legs at 3:30pm and it was so nice outside! It was in the lower 80's and cloudy; a rarity for an August afternoon in Texas!

Wednesday
We went to Zilker Park downtown and rode the little train with our friends. It was a fun time until somebody had a meltdown...oh yeah, I wasn't going to mention that :)
I'm nearly 6 months post-partum and at a point where I feel like I can manage my own family and give some service. I brought dinner to my friend Emily who had a baby 5 weeks ago. She now has 4 boys 5 and under! I knew at 5 weeks post-partum that a meal would be appreciated and I was glad I could be of service.

Thursday
I was so grateful we finally found a great pediatric dentist! Lila had a great experience and I feel really good about them taking care of her cavities (without general anesthesia like the other place wanted!).

Friday
A trip to Ikea just to let Lila play at Smäland. She needed some free fun and I needed a break!
Girls night out! I got together with five friends from church and we went out for Thai food. Darren was so nice to do the bed time routine alone so I could have a break.

Saturday
We continue to have our weekly family outing to the gym; I look forward to it all week! I forgot to reserve a racquetball court in time, so we decided to try squash instead. There was a definite learning curve, but we figured it out and had a good time. We sure love our racquet sports! We did some climbing aftwards and I really feel like I'm building up my strength for climbing. I did two climbs with the auto belay today and two bouldering climbs. Not too bad :)

Today
I woke up with a sore throat and runny nose and Walt was congested the night before and had a runny nose himself. I told Darren when he woke up for bishopric meeting that me and baby Walt would not be attending church today. He was so sweet and stayed home to take care of me and the kids. I really appreciated it today, especially with the extra sleep I was able to get in because he stayed :)
Since we hadn't even walked outside at all today, at about 7:30pm we went for a walk down the street. We saw a leaf bug which I took a picture of below. Heavenly Father's creations sure are amazing!

You guys look like you're doing well (other than the sick day)! :) What an adorable family. Seriously. Oh and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Noosa yoghurt! I call it my dessert yoghurt and sometimes after a really long run I like to reward myself with the strawberry rhubarb one. Hehe

Adria, we'd love a visit When you are back in Utah (although my house may be a mess and I may not be ready at all for the day...I'm still figuring out how to do everything with 2 kids). And what do you do with your kiddos on your Saturday dates? I've missed racquetball. Your gym dates sound so fun.

Going private, send your e-mail to keep reading!!

Well, I've found out that a middle aged man has been coming on my blog and looking at pictures of my children.  I am obviously very uncomfortable with this, so it's time to go private. I'm happy to let any of you continue reading, as long as I know you and know you're not creepy! Just post your e-mail address and I'll add it to the list :o)

The long version & his name

I started working on this post on Wednesday, but I've been sick with a cold and desperately trying to get rest, so here it is Friday and I'm finally finishing it up! Monday morning I woke up with a sore throat and a cough. I thought I had escaped getting sick like Darren and Lila, but I wasn't feeling great so I slept in until 9am. Me and Lila hung out at home resting all day Monday. I spent so much time on the couch in the living room that I started sketching and making decorating/rearranging plans for the living room. I pinned curtain and art ideas on Pinterest and started pricing out my plans. When a friend invited Lila over for a play date on Tuesday, I started making plans for hitting up the craft store and beginning my living room makeover the next day. After Darren got home and we got Lila to bed, I found some energy and began rearranging the living room and straightening up the house. Then at 10:30pm I decided to do a short yoga practice, took a shower at 11, ...

Lila is 2!!

Where did the time go? My baby is two and not really a baby at all. We love her to pieces and can't imagine life without her. She continues to learn things quickly and is already starting to read. Just kidding!! Just wanted to see if you were reading my post. Lila loves to learn, but she's not a genius (sorry sweetie--your genes aren't that good!). Lately she's been learning the sounds the letters make (she learned the alphabet at 16 mos.) and by sight she recognizes the words "cat", "dog", "Mom", "Dad", and "Lila." She knows all the colors (although her colorblindness sometimes gets her mixed up on red and green...those darn genes again!), shapes, and numbers 1-15. She enjoys singing, playing the "I Spy" game, running, climbing, going to nursery on Sunday, bike rides, looking at books, and going to the library. Oh yeah, and did I mention that she likes chocolate just as much as I do?? Maybe I shouldn't ha...
