Tender mercies

About two weeks ago I realized that there's a Blogger app for the iPhone. I installed it on my phone and each night I read my scriptures then add a little bit to my weekly blog post about what I was thankful for that day. So I did this all week, but then I really wanted to just shorten it to the tender mercies I received this week. I'm terrible at editing though, so I'll start with the short version, but I'm still going to include everything I wrote this week for my own journaling purposes. And of course there will be pictures from the week sprinkled throughout this post :o) When I started this post on Monday I titled it "Rough Start." Yesterday I changed the post title to "Rough Start and a Rough end." Then I listened to Stake Conference today. I was reminded of tender mercies and I couldn't help but become very aware of the tender mercies I experienced this week.      I had a very trying start to my Monday as Lila threw the biggest tantrum E...

Grounded

Well, grounded is how we felt around here this week. Poor Lila had a terrible cough and cold nearly the entire week. And by the end of the week Walt has a cough too :o( We mostly stayed home, with just a couple of short outings. And today we're spending Father's Day at home together with our sweet, sniffling and coughing babes. Here's what I was grateful for this week: Lila likes showers now. Showers are much quicker than baths, so I'm glad she's taken a liking to them. Darren cleaning the entire kitchen. I didn't ask him to either. My beautiful house in a nice neighborhood. I had the opportunity to give some compassionate service this week to a newly baptized member of my ward. She and her family live in very run down trailer in a n area of my ward that's several miles from us. I was humbled to realize just how blessed I am to have such a nice home. My sweet, sick little girl. I love her so much, it breaks my heart to see her miserable. I hugged her...

Shocker--I cut my hair!

Okay, not really shocking. I get bored of my hair pretty fast, so it's probably not surprising that I cut my hair.  My decision came just as the summer heat has really set in and my hair is coming out in handfuls.  And also not shocking: I'm not sure that I like it. It's cut a bit shorter than I was expecting and not exactly the style I thought I asked for. But it's just hair and it will grow; long gone are the days when I cry over my hair.  So what do you think? It's pretty short, no? These are the pics of what I wanted. Am I just being crazy--is this the haircut I have? P.S. I finally published the drafts I'd written for the last couple Sundays if you want to see pics of the kiddos.

It's summer

Once again I didn't do a great job of recording my thankful list each day, so I'm having a hard time remembering all the good things from this week. Here's what I've come up with: Lila started swim lessons this past week. She's taking them at the gym Darren and I go to, so it's pretty convenient. We were going to sign up for the Monday soccer class with our church friends, but I opted for swim lessons instead. Hopefully we can do soccer another time. I've been going to the gym regularly and both Lila and Walt do really well in the child care center. I even got brave enough to leave Walt for an entire hour and attend one of the classes. I took a kickboxing class that uses a weighted bar. When I got up to the class, just 3 minutes before it began, the only bars left were 12 and 15 pounds. I obviously went for the lighter bar, and even with that 12 pound bar, wow-ee was that a workout! I only lowered my bar to my shoulders a couple times for 30 seconds (whe...

Memorial day & June is here

Time is flying by! I probably always say that, but seriously, how are we already half way through the year?? Anyway, not much happened around here this week, and I wasn't good at keeping a daily record of the things I was thankful for, so it's a short list this week. Walt turned 3 months old and he's very healthy and happy. He is also quite an easy baby right now and he sleeps really well (...now if I would just go to bed earlier so I could get lots of sleep too). He likes to grab toys and try to sit up. He smiles and is getting so close to giggling. He loves to be sung to and I'm still his favorite toy. Oh yeah, and he's adorably chubby :o) Memorial day; it's always great when Darren has a paid holiday! Especially when I remember the summer sales days where Darren had four years in a row of working on Memorial Day. The gym; Darren got me to sign up at the gym he's a member of. It's a really nice gym with lots of classes, indoor and outdoor swimmi...

Just another week

So I uploaded the pics for this post, then I left you all hanging (as if there's someone reading this blog!). Anyway, you can imagine that I've been too busy with life to be timely with my blog updates. So a few days late, here's the list and some descriptions of the pics from the past week. This week I was thankful for... ...Soccer tots. Some of our friends from church with little boys have been taking a soccer class at a local indoor soccer place. Our friends had invited us to come try out the class, since you can do that for free. We finally gave it a try and Lila loved it! I wasn't sure how she would do, but she had no problem being the only girl in the class and she shocked me with her skills! She quickly was running and kicking the ball and going straight for the goal. She's quite competitive, so she tried her best to keep up with the boys when the coach was having them run the length of the field. We'll see if we can sign up for the remainder of ...
