It's been a busy week. We had the moving truck delivered Friday and yesterday we finished filling it, emptying the house completely, and left the house looking cleaner than the day we bought it. Amid yesterday's moving busy-ness, I noticed when I dressed Lila in the morning that she had a big yellow bruise on her collar bone and shoulder. I had Darren take a look and then I said, "I didn't notice it before, but I guess that's why she's being acting like she's in pain all week!" We went ahead and continued with our moving and then at lunch time Darren wanted to have another look at her shoulder. This time Darren noticed a bump on her collar bone and predicted that she had broken it. I said "Wow, I think you could be right," but knowing what I do about broken bones I told him that even if it was broken there's nothing the doctor would do about a broken collar bone.

Notice the bump above Lila's shoulder?
Well, Darren insisted we take her to urgent care and get an x-ray, so we left the remainder of the truck loading to his parents and went off to urgent care. On the way there we remembered that last Saturday night Lila had rolled off her bed and woke up screaming at 3:30am. At the time we thought her rolling off the bed and screaming was related to our hike that day and a runny nose she had from the previous day. We had chalked it up to heat rash, a runny nose, and exhaustion that she rolled off the bed and woke up frightened and uncomfortable. Looking back we see that this indeed must have been what caused her poor little broken clavicle. But in fairness, from our point of view, we would never have imagined that Lila's rolling off the bed could have caused this. You see, Lila has always slept on our old queen mattress on the floor. Her bed is only 8-10 inches off the ground and seemed like just about the safest thing ever! Anyway, in reflection we remembered that last Sunday she laid on the couch without moving all day, she asked us to prop her up when she wanted to sit up a little more, and we gave her children's motrin and let her nap most of the day. Basically we felt pretty silly for not noticing all week that she had a more serious injury than we imagined.

Well, the x-ray indeed confirmed Darren's suspicion, and the doctor also confirmed my knowledge of broken clavicles. Lila was a good little patient and got her x-ray, a sticker, and a sucker. Mom and dad got the satisfaction of knowing that she was going to be fine, her little bone was already healing up, and all we could do was give her some more children's Tylenol if she was in any more pain. Now if only this could have waited 2 more weeks when we have some health care coverage on her...

Her poor little broken clavicle
Anyway, the packing is done, and we are currently staying with Darren's parents until summer semester ends and we can head down to Austin on August 11th. Now if I can just get a good grade on my third Stats exam, ace my final Marketing project, and do good on my finals I will happily be on my way to Texas :o)

We took this today after church when we went back to take some pics of the empty house.
